Moving On…

So. Maybe you have heard or maybe you haven’t.

But I am going to be leaving Nowhereville. Why?

Well. I figured that I would leave to make way for a change to Nowhereville. Theres some prime candidates who want to move in and it makes sense that I should leave to make way for change. I have always been a big believer of change and the good it can do but having looked back at Nowhereville I just don’t think it has changed all that much. The major changes to the island were mostly on my parcel(s), Gomem’s parcel, When the Newggenheim came in and when Caleb changed things around. But now it probably needs a major change and I believe that may be around the corner, and it’s gotta be good…right?

But what about you, Stuart?

Well. I am moving to Podcast Island. Why?

To be honest not a lot happens there. It needs to be injected with new life and events to make it seem more active. The main event that happens each month is of course the Podcaster Meetups. But with SLPN moving in there will be more events garunteed with the live podcasts we are starting to do more and more at SLPN.

Strike Time?

OK, I am going to discuss this whole SL Blogger strike thing. I myself a blogger am blogging about a blogging strike. Yay Oxymoron’s!

So, Gwyneth is leading a protest about the whole copyright and licensing thing about the lack of a clarification. Even though there was a clarification.

Linden Lab’s clarification

Why didn’t the linden’s address the bloggers?

Pretty much because they aren’t going to go after the frickin bloggers. The bloggers help promote Second Life so why the hell would they go after the bloggers?

It’s like saying that Apple sues all the blogs for talking about the iPhone. It’s crazy. They didn’t even take down Fake Steve. So why the hell would Linden Lab even take them down.

The copyright thing goes after people who are profiting by infringing on the Second Life copyrights. SLPN was sorta affected in a sense because we may in the future recieve cash sponsorship to help out the costs of running the network. Hence why I did some changes like just branding it as SLPN, Podcasts for the Metaverse

My blog will not change UNLESS Linden Lab says, you gotta change this. Because lets be honest, they will only give you a written warning about the content if its deemed to violate in a way they don’t like it.

And just remember…theres only 49 days left if your super-paranoid that the Lab’s is out to get you

Somebody Dazzle Me?

OK so the next release candidate for SL was released featuring the new and amazing Dazzle UI. As much as the Linden Lab™ says that this is more than a colour change, it really just is a new lick of paint to an interface. and I personally do not like the interface..

It doesn’t seem to change the core way that it is laid out. That is a problem for me because I am a resident of nearly 2 years of age and I still to this day find things in the interface that I didn’t know about in the beginning days and it makes me wonder, what does the new Second Life resident think of this interface.

Not to mention…Dazzle is too…vista-like for me. Some argue that it is more Aqua like but I don’t think so. Its more of an Aero on spearmint flavoured steroids. The more I use the interface the more I want the old interface just because of the colour. Maybe if Linden Lab™ implemented a skinning scheme where users can create their own interface, sort of like Firefox does it, then I would be happier. Possibly people could sell their skinned SL themes but only as an option. Sort of like what they are planning with Windlight.

The only feature I like in the client so far is the in-built Anti-Aliasing. To those who do not play games and most likely will not of heard of this amazing technology. Anti-Aliasing is the art of pixel smoothing in 3D graphics which makes everything look a whole lot better. In some enviroments 2X is fine. Snapshot lovers will want to go as far up as possible to get the best photographs as possible.

Don’t think that going all the way to 16X Anti-Aliasing doesn’t affect performance. It puts a lot more pressure on a graphics card. Top that off with Windlight/Draw Distance and everything else and you have got to need a powerful rig to handle it all.

My thoughts on the whole trademark issue

I haven’t really posted up my thoughts on the whole trademark issue with the whole inSL™ thing. Sure I have podcasted about it (Podmafia Podcast Episode 41 with Crap Mariner) but that was before the clarification was released on April Fools Day (good timing LL).

So, I personally haven’t changed a thing to the StuartWarf.com blog as of yet even though a clarification was released because I am lazy and quite frankly annoyed since I have to go through 300ish posts to check.

As for SLPN (SL Podcast Network) We have changed a few things around like the Second Life Newscast will be changed to MetaNews Weekly (some other cool stuff about that will be happening real soon. I just need to finish some things off) and have submitted the site for the inSL™ on Tuesday. So far they haven’t sent me an email back saying “We don’t like some of the stuff you have, can you change it please etc.)

Personally I don’t think the lindens will sue the bloggers and podcasters because we are probably their biggest promoters. But business that clearly infringe on the Second Life virtual world will need to either change what they are doing quickly or probably face a Cease and Desist letter.

I think the bloggers need to stop worrying because I really doubt they are a threat to the trademarks and all that legal jazz that Linden Research® owns.

n00b meets Warf

click.jpg

I just signed myself up for a new service called BitStrips and so far I love it. So much so that I have decided to try and do a 5 times a week comic strip about Second Life. This first one is loosely based on a true story of when I met a newbie. Expect n00b to come into play more often in the strip along with people we all know.

The BitStrip service is a little low on current customization but i’m pretty sure that it will change a lot in the future…

The Monday Meetup

Better late than never I guess…

Last Monday at Podcast Island the monthly Podcasters Meetup happened. Now I never really go to the meetup but I felt compelled to this time round because Cali Lewis was scheduled to appear…

But due to a scheduling cock-up that didn’t happen. I still ended up going though and we had a different topic come up.

During the discussion a big issue we discussed was how content is enjoyed in the new media age. For some reason I personally prefer using audio based podcasts to video. Why?

For the same reason as Crap Mariner

It takes up less space on my iPod touch and I can listen to it wherever I go. The only thing that really annoys me about the SLCN shows is that I feel like I have to watch it. I would prefer it if a lot of those shows were in audio. The only things that video seemingly works on SLCN is for the sports like “Sail On” and “SLascar Racing”. I should note that I am not really attacking SLCN’s method because after all…I am the “Chief Architect” of the Second Life PODCAST Network which is all about Audio.

Alot of the discussion was about SLPN (mostly cos all of the SLPNcasters were there)

Sure Video killed the Radio Star but does the same apply to podcasts that can be taken anywhere.

Anyway, it’s time for some PHOTOS

Remind me to go to more of the meetups because I really enjoyed this meetup.

AND a final note… the StuartWarf.com site is currently going under a change, just like the Podmafia site. I want to finish off and fine tune all of my website first though, because it will be the easiest to do.  However, I want to eventually tag every one of my 450+ blog entries… that will take probably a year

Podcasting History

When I joined Second Life in May 2006, a large factor of my life revolved around the podcasting community. Along my journey in Second Life, I have had the pleasure of doing many podcasts. Alot of them went podfade (that means the podcast just shut down and died). Others continue to live on….for now. This page will document every podcast I have done with a brief description of those shows.

Current Podcasts

The Podmafia Podcast
The Podmafia Podcast is a weekly audio adventure with myself, Gomem Desoto and Yxes Delacroix. With varying topics such at the latest stuff coming to Second Life, shopping and many many other topics. Each week I record a show with these awesome co-hosts is amazing and makes me feel all happy and stuff.

Building with Warf
This is the first ever video podcast that I have ever done! Building with Warf takes a unusual change to the way I do podcasts. I am for once teaching people something. In this podcast I teach people how to build in Second Life so that hopefully they can avoid the mishaps that many builds can be produced in Second Life and maybe, one day, people can start making a living in Second Life from skills they have learnt from me.

Podfaded Podcast History

The Weekly Warf Show
A short lived attempt at a podcast about my virtual life. I quickly figured out that The Weekly Warf show would not work because who wants to know about some guy’s life. One thing that I have learnt about Second Life podcasts is that most of them are hard to do without a gang to do the show like Podmafia or Going Broke with Daphne and Tamara.

Psichonico’s Daily Podcast
This podcast was supposedly daily but it was more of a twice a week thing. A lot of it was a sort of secret parody of Daily Source Code (and eventually The Gomem Show). Most music-casters listen to the music and choose something good. I mostly would choose something randomly and very rarely would stop the madness. It was a bit like The Weekly Warf show where I quickly lost the will to do it but Gomem and his “podfade” comments somehow spurred me to do about 30 more episodes than I wanted to.

It had a very stubborn death…

Inside the Boxes
This is the first ever podcast that I ever decided to do. It started up in March 2006 when I first got a microphone and wanted to do a podcast. The show was based on the TV game show Deal or no Deal. Sadly the community I was creating it to had no clue about what podcasting is or was. So such a podcast was bound to tank.

The Ten Cast
The Ten Cast was a weekly technology news podcast in which I discuss the latest techology news in the world. Since I am a big geek I love technology and all the stuff that it creates. You can still listen to the show at PodcasterNews.com if you want to listen to the show.

No Longer Contributing To

MetaNews Weekly
In it’s short history MetaNews Weekly is a podcast revolved around the news of the metaverse. Originally hosted by myself and Gomem Desoto. After 3 episodes we decided to hand over the keys to Mal Burns and Tara Yeats. The show is currently on Hiatus until my machine returns and will then return in a Live Streaming format

Appearances

Night Guy Episode 45
Guy David, host of the Night Guy podcast, invited me on to his show for the first of three episodes called “The Podmafia Chronicles”. We talked about some of the stuff that I was doing and also was the final podcast that I used a headset on since it pretty much died in the recording.

SL Under the Radar Episode 24
In this episode of SL Under the Radar, Radar invited me to talk about SLPN. I decided to do reverse psychology on the listeners to trick them in to thinking why the network was bad and make them visit in order to wonder why it was so bad…

I think it worked…

SL Under the Radar Episode 33
It was a week of change for me, I was working on moving SLPN to a new server and moving SLPN’s HQ from Nowhereville to Podcast Island and stuff. In the week I was asked by Radar if I wanted to be in a short interview and I accepted. I gave views on the SL podcasting scene but mostly the story of my Second Life.

The Black Tie Martini Club - A Cleveland Yankee in King Razzaps Court Over The Rainbow
In this episode of The Black Tie Martini Club Oddcast Caleb invited me to play a few roles. OK so i butchered it all up and could have done better but…I tried to make myself sound clear…and I think I was ill at the time…It was December after all…

Crap Mariner’s marathon of many many chats…
For some reason, Crap Mariner/Laurence Simon invited many people to chill and have a chat with him in the time limit of 15 minutes. I was first up in the episode and pretty much everyone was better than me but ah well. I advise you go listen to it if you want to have 5 hours of torture. It has an important message at the end i thought…

iPodjacker Episode Seven - Stuart Warf
Crap Mariner launched a new podcast called iPodjacker. It was launched when SL5B came around and he wanted a chance to talk to podcasters who have been involved with Second Life. I was glad to participate in this podcast. The series also features interviews with people like Wiz Nordberg, Rich Desoto and other great SL talents.

The Tower of Power?

Snapshot_003

Currently working on the upper tower part of the Towers of Nowhereville.

Had to change it from this original photo because someone complained that their view was obstructed.

Forbes Guy…

Everyone is talking about this idiot at Forbes who seems to be moaning about the “economic crisis” in Second Life. So as i write this i am going to be watching this video and telling you my thoughts on this.

After Post Note - WHY is there so many advertisements just to watch one freaking 300 second video

Note 1 - Gambling was NOT shut down months ago, only the advertising of it

Note 2 - It is not one of the only ways to earn an income in Second Life, theres clothing, building, entertainment such as Live Music, DJing, sadly the Sex industry which may become a target next as everyone is rumouring. Theres owning land and profiting from that along with rentals. Theres all sorts of other methods for earning an income in Second Life.

Note 3 - Why is “most of things going into sex”. BECAUSE THE MEDIA HYPED IT TO BE A SEX CRAZED WORLD!!!!

Note 4 - You may have spent a lot of time in the world but WHERE DID YOU SPEND TIME (sorry the rant mode is ON)

Note 5 - I think the corporate businesses are already losers because they ultimately have made their purpose boring and dead. Sure the openings are filled but they offer absolutely nothing after it. Stuff like Woodstock which was a homegrown effort gained popularity for what it was and has shown that sex and gambling is everything when it is not. People tipped the artists like crazy and because i was once married to someone in a sex club i can tell you the artists EARNED up to 10 times more in one fucking hour than those sex club workers. L$1000 for an hour night in some cases compared to L$10,000 for an hour shows the POWER of other places.

Note 6 - Of course its stupid to have a washing machine in Second Life. You don’t need to wash your clothes in Second Life and also it does nothing. Washing machines that eat an avatar up and spins them round for 10 seconds is far more intresting than that

Note 7 - World of Warcraft firstly is a waste of time. I spent about 10 hours and was more bored of the newbies going around saying stuff like “TRAD WTIH M3 B4 I KIL YOU” on a server which people don’t fight each other…only the monsters/creatures. Also do you hear live music in WoW? Do you actually have fun? Has anyone died playing Second Life on a 57 hour spree? No is the answer!

Note 8 - How is Mario Kart and Second Life related? Pre - Made cars which you can change a color to blue, red, white etc. ?

For a Video to this detailed and obviously smarter guy than I am click this link

That felt good to rant, I don’t do that often :D

Vendors and Vans

I woke up earlier today and decided to log into SL. I saw a lot of changes to the Woodstock stage amongst other things.

Firstly, Dario completed his van for SL Woodstock and looks fantastic in it’s surroundings and blends in very well with the forest. (looks better when set to night)

woodmore_2.jpg

Then i noticed that a Vendor area had been set up while i was gone. Thank you Crap for putting up The Ten Cast on the wall and getting me some attention :) .

woodmore_3.jpg

It must have been late in the US. There were avatars present such as Corey Edo, Torrid Midnight, Miss Sheep (TheDiva) amongst other people.

woodmore_4.jpg

Another area with Dario’s van. This time it is on Los Arboles. With the Porta-Potty’s around as well. There is also a little area not so far away which…

Has two cool scuptured (not sure if there were sculpties used) people. Nice touch Banana.
